Artist: Norman Ives

Norman Ives (1923-1978) was an American graphic designer and artist, known for his contributions to the field of concrete poetry and his use of typography in his visual art. He was born in Massachusetts and studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Ives worked as a graphic designer for several companies, including IBM and Time magazine, and also taught graphic design at the Rhode Island School of Design. In the 1960s, he began experimenting with concrete poetry, which emphasizes the visual arrangement of words on a page to convey meaning. Ives also created a series of collages and paintings that explored the interplay of color, shape, and text. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world and is held in numerous public and private collections.
